I’ve created a few little ‘book corners’ in places through our home… just little spots where the books are gathered… where little hands have access to stories & pictures, to inspire their imaginations & often their play. Here are just a few we’ve enjoyed this year…
SO MANY DAYS
Written by Alison McGhee & beautifully illustrated by Taeeun Yoo
I can’t say enough about how beautiful Taeeun Yoo’s illustrations are.
“So many doors in all your days
So much to wonder about –
Who will you be and where will you go?
And how will you know?”
SARAH’S HEAVY HEART
Written & Illustrated by Peter Carnavas
‘Sarah knew the heart would always be hers to carry. She just wished it wasn’t so heavy.’A magical story about a little girl’s search for friendship and love.Follow Sarah on her journey and let your heart get ‘carried away’.
LOST and FOUND
‘A wonderful story about the meaning of loneliness and the importance of friendship’.
‘One day a penguin arrives on a boy′s door- step. The boy decides the penguin must be lost and tries to return him. But no-one seems to be missing a penguin. So the boy decides to take the penguin home himself, and they set out in his rowing boat on a journey to the South Pole. When they get there, however, the boy discovers that maybe ′home′ wasn′t what the penguin was looking for after all… ‘
I think picture books can be an incredibly powerful story telling medium. When you find a book where the words and picture really work together, it’s magic. Pearl Barley and Charlie Parsley is one I adore, and Andrew Daddo’s Check on Me. I”ll have to review them on my blog!
I also enjoyed So Many Days.
Thanks Katrina,
We love ‘check on me’ too!!
I’ll have to find the other one you mentioned now too.. any excuse 🙂
