Day 22, 23, 24 – January photo a day project

Ava fills lots of her time with singing & creating & drawing & dreaming. She has a romantic heart.
She gets lost in songs & stories.
She is seven & still keeps asking if she will ever see a fairy & if she’ll ever fly.
This school holidays she got truly lost in a book for the first time.
With her puppy tucked under her arm, she read.

The pool is their happy place.
I wasn’t quite ready with my camera when she jumped in, but I grabbed what I could out of this moment.
For a girl who asks me often if she will ever fly… it sure looks like she’s close.

It was the hardest decision deciding if this year would be Anouk’s first year of kindergarten or a second year of pre-school.
She’ll be 5 in May. She is writing & sounding out words & adding up numbers. She is confident & bright. The teachers at the pre-school & the kindy orientation said they think she would be fine if she started school. But then I couldn’t help thinking about the fact that until May she will still be just 4….. and once she starts school, her days will no longer be about painting & water play & sand pit & dress ups & puzzles & craft. Once she starts school she won’t have days at home with me. Once she starts school she will have to do home work. We decided to let her have one more year of just being little. One more year of being a pre-schooler. One more year of what she calls our “mummy and Anouk days”. One more year.
