“mum if I set the alarm for early tomorrow, will you wake up and walk to the beach with me to watch the sunrise?”
There were so many responses running through my mind…
But I’m not a morning person… but 5am is so early… but we are on holidays… but sleep is good… but I’ve seen the sunrise before and once you’ve seen one…
But… “sure! I’d love to”, I said.
Her invitations to watch the sunrise are her way of asking for quality time on her own with one of us. She usually asks Pete because he is a morning person & it’s usually him who goes on early morning adventures with the girls. Truthfully Ava likes to sleep in too, so when she plans an early morning wake up it’s because she really feels it’s worth it.
So she walked into my room at an early hour and told me it was time. We quietly got dressed & tried not to wake the others. We walked to the empty beach & watched the sky change colours.
The sky changed as quickly as I know my chances to spend time with her like this, will pass me by.
Make the time. Say yes. This is what she has taught me. It’s always worth it.
