Last January I took part in the personal photo project taking a photo-a-day of my children for the entire month of January.
It was a very special month for us as it was the last month before Ava started school.
She had just turned Five. Anouk was two and a half. Now Ava is six and Anouk is three and a half.
I am beginning the photo-a-day project again this month because I want this gift for my children.
This blog isn’t a parenting blog or a blog about my children. It is a photo blog and it is about my pictures.
Photography can be a way to document, a way to write, a way to explore, a way to discover and expose beauty in the ordinary.
I invite you to join me on this photo-a-day journey.
My first image for Jan 1st 2012 was of Ava with her first ‘wobbly’ tooth.
A year later and she has lost 3 teeth and her two top front teeth are loose.
I don’t know why but I feel kind of sad that when she loses these top teeth I will never see her smile again as it looks now.
We watch our babies grow into children with every mile stone, then with each year they seem to shed layers of their childhood. It’s exciting and it’s hard to let go.
The little horse is from her first Lego set she got for Christmas. A current favourite way to spend time in between outdoor Summer day adventures.
Anouk. Not a day goes by where she doesn’t say or do something that makes us laugh. She has courage. She is clever.
She says “I love you” to all of us every day. She makes requests and then follows with “that’s my deal, OK?”.
Last year she named her two dolls ‘I love everything’ & ‘everything I like’.
Now she has renamed them all ‘Anouk’, because it’s her favourite name.
She has been climbing things since she was one. Sky’s the limit for this little one.
She has been six for less than 3 weeks. I know she has moved into a new stage of her childhood. For starters after a year of school she can read and that has opened up an entire world to her.
I keep forgetting she can spell & I still go to spell words to Pete when we are talking about things we don’t want the children to know.
After her 6th birthday I opened her baby book (as I always do) to fill in the details of her birthday and I was surprised to remember that it was an age 0-5 book and the last chapter has been filled in.
I have put her baby book away and started a new one. The layers keep being shed, but underneath there is so much new beauty being revealed. I love her.
Lisa these are so gorgeous I can’t wait to see the rest of Jan xxx
Thank you Jody. It’s such a nice way to start the year. x
I love the way you describe layers being shed to reveal new beauty – that’s a wonderful way to put it and how I feel about my girl and watching her grow. You have inspired me to do this sometime soon. It’s a lovely way to remember. I look forward to following you through the month! xxx
